There’s a zombie apocalypse, the last 3 protagonists in the last 3 stories you read are on your team

Hm… Batman Incorporated, Andrew Bennett, and the Teen Titans.

An army of Batmen, one of the most powerful vampires ever, and a powerful team of metahumans who I’m sure I don’t have to explain.

THE APOCALYPSE IS CANCELLED.

… UNTIL I SAY SO.

I, VAMPIRE #1-5 Review (No spoilers)

First Animal Man, now I Vampire. Seriously, DC’s “The Dark” line is seriously impressing me with these titles I’ve foolishly overlooked. This is a book everybody should be reading.

I had read the first issue back in September, but for money-reasons, I didn’t pick up any other issues. I always wanted to, but either way, it was stupid. I Vampire may have seemed like a dumb Twilight knock-off to us all at first, but it’s anything but. The premise is simple and you get it clearly given to you in issue 1.

First thing I wanna point out is that the art fits so ridiculously well for this series. It’s not the kind of art you can toss in any book, it’s tailored specifically to fit the dark atmosphere of it all, and it’s just breathtaking. The atmosphere itself also likes to make a juxtaposition between the grim situation these characters are in and how despite that, there’s fun interaction to be had every once in a while and the art is a reflection of that juxtaposition. The writing is just… it’s hard to explain why it’s good, it just is. REALLY good. The characters are very likable and you care right from the get-go. You’re also thrown right in the middle of the story, and it’s a lot to digest, but you buy it quickly and move on thanks to the talent of Mr.Fialkov. You feel incredibly immersed in this world, and the vampire mythos is just so interesting. Lots of potential with the premise and it’s all realized. You get kind of an indy-feel with this series, but as you’ll quickly notice, it’s definitely in the DC Universe, and you’ll even see a couple pleasant cameos from DC characters.

Our protagonist is great, he’s a very moral man, and he’s old, but he’s as youthful as can be. He has a way about him that makes him not quite a leader persay, but he can level with others easily and he tries to show them the way. He also has a slight badass-streak in him when he’s in action and his powerset is really cool to see them play around with. His love for Mary is also very pure and despite them being arch-enemies who are forced to be at each other’s throats, they do love each other no matter what. But they’re not too whiny about it, they’re mature about it. It’s like frienemies on a whole new level. Really love that relationship, and Mary herself is also a pretty great character.

Anyways, I’m typing this at school and I’m supposed to be working, so I’ll end this right here. It’s awesome so read it.
