I love this girl way too much.
I try to use different Pokemon on every game, so my experience varies and I get to experience more Pokemon. But the thing is… I’ve used a lot of Gen.1 Pokemon, and there isn’t much to offer outside of what I’ve used that’s actually useful (however, as you’ll see in my proposed team, I’m a lot more open to choosing Pokemon who aren’t too powerful). So I’m thinking:
1. Charizard
Why: … Because he’s awesome. But honestly, because he’s THE iconic starter Pokemon in my eyes, and I like being all official like that. I like him, and I’ve *gasp* never actually finished this… “Kanto saga”, for lack of a better term. So I want to experience this journey from beginning to end with him, even if I have used him in Platinum.
2. Pikachu
Why: Pretty much the same reason as Charizard. Who doesn’t love Pikachu? He’s so cute and lovable. Not the strongest, but Pokemon isn’t as fun when you just choose the strongest Pokemon ever and never actually grow attached to them. I love Pikachu. I evolved him in Heartgold, but I think I want to experiment and try to never evolve him.
3. Butterfree
Why: I really like Butterfree. It’s actually really good, too. I’ve been waiting for an excuse to put one on my team for ages ever since I first used one. Hell, he’s the only reason I beat Misty today.
4. Poliwrath
Why: Like Butterfree, I like him a lot and really wanted to use him on a team for a while. I’ve grown pretty fond of water types ever since I chose Oshawott in Black 2, and having it be fighting too is a nice bonus. Not to mention, Red had one in the manga.
5. Either Dugtrio or Marowak (too lazy to get pictures for the rest of these)
Why: Cubone/Marowak is fascinating from a lore point of view for obvious reasons. I’ve always liked him. since I was a kid and didn’t even play Pokemon. I always use Marowak for when I’m filling up the Pokedex, since he learns False Swipe, and it’s an excuse to use him… but I think I might wanna let him have a starring role finally. As for Dugtrio, I’ve started to like Diglett (it’s so cute, and it’s actually pretty good), and I’ve never really used it before. I think now’s a good time to give it a chance. Why not both? Because type coverage, duh. Not gonna use TWO Ground Types.
6. Vileplume, Ditto, Articuno, Mewtwo, I DUNNO!!!!
Why: As much as I hate grass types, I’ve really started to like Oddish, who is sadly very underrated. Grass is good for coverage, too. I’m curious to see if Ditto would be good… I once used one against my sister in a battle and I almost took out her whole team. Articuno is just really well-designed, and I’ve never really used Ice types, and they intrigue me. I don’t care if using legendaries is frowned upon in the competitive/metagame community, fuck those people. I play to have FUN. I’ll do what I want. And Mewtwo, because… Mewtwo. This final spot is what’s really got me stumped.
So… any ideas? Remember: if you’re about to throw out the obvious ones like Gyarados, Gengar, Kadabra, Dragonite, etc… I’ve most likely used them.
Today would have been 6 months.
